Today's project

A few of us neighbors are having trees taken down today. We had a one removed that was in poor shape and some dead branches trimmed. The tree guys knocked on my door with this
Apparently the nest fell out of my neighbor's tree. You may wonder how I've ended up as it's caretaker, well I'm wondering about that too. Anyway, my instructions are to put the nest in a shallow box and keep the nest warm with a heating pad. Hopefully tonight Mother Squirrel will return and take her babies. Did you know that squirrels always build a backup nest, just in case? I learned that today. Wish us luck! Update, Mama squirrel came back late in the evening and got her babies!

Hopefully the mother will be back. I didn't know they had babies this late in the summer.

How lucky that she was able to find them and willing to take them back after that disturbance.

Wow! I've never seen baby squirrels before. How wonderful that the mother squirrel came to get her babies.

How wonderful that the mother came back. I guess it isn't just nuts which squirrels remember. :-) What a relief for you. In the UK you aren't allowed to disturb a nest (so felling is delayed). I think it is just birds though but I'm not sure.

Very interesting post, Lynn. I love your recent quilting projects, especially that butterfly one. I've got a bunch of UFOs that need some attention.... you're a good role model! Oh, and I enjoyed seeing your sewing space.
