Veteran's Day

"They will live a long time, these men of the South Pacific…. They, like their victories, will be remembered as long as our generation lives. After that, like the men of the Confederacy, they will become strangers. Longer and longer shadows will obscure them until their Guadalcanal sounds distant on the ear like Shiloh and Valley Forge." (quote from Tales of the South Pacific by James Michener).

A picture of my Dad when he was 18 in the Navy during World War II. My family and I went to see a terrific production of South Pacific last week. I enjoyed it so much. Especially knowing it was my Dad's favorite muscical. He had a very fun side to him, was a teaser and one of his life long sorrows was that he lent that jacket in the picture to a relative and never got it back. But there's this picture of him looking so young and handsome and laughing.

Thanks to all the veterans. Your dad was very handsome when he was a young man. South Pacific is one of my favorites too.

Yes your Dad was very handsome. This is the 1st year in the UK where we are without any WWI veterans. Now we truely are without that generation who sacrificed so much.
