Alice Grace who has a wonderful blog (http://hartdolls.blogspot.com/) mentioned that many of the quilts from the quilt show I posted seemed difficult for a beginner. I agree with Alice. I took some pictures while at my quilt show that were for me - not to post . Easy patterns that I can do: star blocks, snowball/9patch. After I got her comment I thought I should post those pictures too. I think the simpler quilts are more inspiration for most of us quilters than the show quilts. Which is why a quilt shop with those shop samples can be such a dangerous place to your wallet. I am coming to the realization that simpler is best. When I do more complicated patterns the quilts don't get finished!

Hi, Lynn - I actually had a few quilts in the DOQ show, and as a somewhat beginning quilter, I can attest that the crazy awesome skills of my fellow guild members are indeed pretty intimidating sometimes. BUT they're so supportive and encouraging that I find myself more inspired than intimidated most of the time! Thanks for coverage of the show!!

Thanks for the mention of my blog! I am so intrigued with all the quilts, and am amazed at the expertise that goes into them. However, I can at this time get inspired when I see one I can possibly do. I do love all the quilts that you posted of the quilt show. The difficult ones are stunning and leaves me wondering "how did they do that!" Maybe someday......I can dream can't I!

Your right - complicated quilts can be intimidating and us beginers can sometimes shy away from them! But those quilts are great and we will get there as quilters!

You are soo right! The smaller steps you make, the longer distance you are likely to walk. And it will all be fun. I never make something that will be too difficult for me /as I need it completed and still liked after finishing/. But fortunately "difficultness" changes with time and experience :)

While the advanced and complicated quilts are inspiring, I love the clean graphic qualities of the simpler quilts. I think that it give me a place to do what I do best-- quilt. Your pics are show some of my favorites that I really intend to do!

What a nice quilt show...I've enjoyed seeing all of them in both of your posts. I'm amazed at the more complicated ones and I like seeing color choices in the more attainable ones. Thanks for sharing your photos with us.
